Obituary

Williams, Donald E. MADISON Donald E. Williams, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Aug, 17, 1926, in Wahoo, Neb., the son of Jay and Joy Williams. Don was united in marriage to Patricia Bly on June 24, 1950, in Madison. Don served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Lawrence University for two years, then received his bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Don worked in the Personnel Department at UW-Madison. Don received a masters of social work degree from UW-Madison. He worked for the Department of Corrections, and later worked in Milwaukee at Lakeside Childrens Center. After moving back to Madison, Don was a social worker in the Sun Prairie Schools for many years. He opened an outpatient mental health clinic in Sun Prairie. After retirement, he ran the volunteer program at Meriter Hospital in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department for many years. He was a member of Monona United Methodist Church. Don is survived by his wife, Pat; three sons, Bruce (Cherry) of Urbana, Ill., Mark (Elizabeth) of Atlanta, Ga., and Dave (Charlene) of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Thomas, Haley, Margaret, Ethan, Owen, and Ella; four step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; a brother, Raleigh (Nena) of Springfield, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Judy (Roger) Mayer of Madison, Kathleen (Charles) Nelson of Dayton, Ohio and Dorothy Williams of Montello; brother-in-law, Jim (Helen) Bly of Madison; a niece, Susan Williams; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Stan. Memorial services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, with the Rev. Susanne Burwell presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Monona United Methodist Church or HospiceCare Inc. A special thank you to the staff at HospiceCare for all of their wonderful care of Don, especially, Neal, Joan, Lisa, Tommye, and Megan.
