Lloyd Doerfer

Doerfer, Lloyd A. OREGON/FITCHBURG Lloyd A. Doerfer, age 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital, after battling Alzheimers disease for several years. Lloyd was born on March 5, 1920, in Madison, to Albert and Clara (Hillesheim) Doerfer. He was two years old when his parents moved to a farm on Fish Hatchery Road in Fitchburg. Lloyd and his brother, the late Robert Doerfer, expanded the farm in 1951 by purchasing a neighboring farm on Caine Road. Lloyd and Robert farmed together their entire lives. Lloyd attended grade school in the one-room Oakhall School in Fitchburg. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1938 and from the University of Wisconsin Farm Short Course in 1939. Lloyd is survived by his sister-in-law, Sylvia Doerfer; nieces, Bonnie (Gerald) Jeranek, Shirley (William) Larsen and Karen Daily. He is further survived by his great-nieces, Sharon (Chris) Studenka, Julie (Aaron) Handwerker, Kate (Brian) Dzierzewski and Jodi Jeranek. The most recent additions to his family are his great-great-nephew, Zachary Handwerker; and great-great-niece, Chelsea Handwerker. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and nephew-in-law, Stuart Daily. A tribute and celebration of Lloyds life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at MAPLE TREE RESTAURANT, 6010 Highway 51, McFarland, at 1 p.m. Family and friends are all welcome. Burial services were held at Oakhall Cemetery, Fitchburg. Memorial donations may be made in Lloyds name to the Alzheimers Association, South Central Wisconsin Chapter, 517 N. Segoe Road, Suite 301, Madison, WI 53705. Lloyds family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Janet Michaelis for the excellent care she gave him over the last two years, as his struggle with Alzheimers progressed.
