Grace Pollard

Grace L. (Wacek) Pollard, died on Friday, Dec. 21, 2007. She was born on June 21, 1920, in Lancaster, to Joseph F. and Emma Irene (Ward) Wacek; sibling to older sister, Frances (deceased); and younger brothers, John from Madison and William from Albuquerque, N.M. Having resided only a short time in Lancaster, Grace claimed Madison as her "hometown," and graduated from Madison East in 1938. On June 21, 1946, she was joined in marriage to George F. Pollard, son of Sidney and Laura Pollard. After 47 ½ years of a wonderful life together, George passed away after being disabled for several years from a massive stroke. Graces life was then filled with family, friends and her interests in church (choir member from high school until 1983), crafts, traveling, reading, bridge, walking and golf. Top priorities for Grace and George were their three wonderful daughters, Jo (Ruth Penberthy) Olson, Georgia (Jim Pedersen) Pollard, Leanne (Ken) Panozzo; and three much-loved grandchildren, Abby, Michael and Matthew Panozzo. After 50 years of residence in the Madison home Grace and George built together, Grace moved to an apartment in Monona, where she met many new friends. Grace was preceded in death by parents; infant sister; husband; and infant son. May all family and friends thank God for each day given to them in peace. A memorial service will be held at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Paul Shupe presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or the Lake Edge United Church of Christ Music Fund.
