Obituary

Kaltenberg, Eugene Joseph "Ham" MADISON Eugene Joseph "Ham" Kaltenberg, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at Belmont Health Care Center, following a short illness. He was born on Nov. 9, 1919, in Madison, to Anton and Margaret (Hildebrandt) Kaltenberg. Eugene graduated from Madison East High School in 1938. He worked at Madison Kipp Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1977. Eugene enjoyed woodworking and was an avid sports fan, especially the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. He was a baseball player and played for Gardner Bakery Industrial League, once pitching against Satchel Paige. Eugene always had a warm smile and a kind word to say. He had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by his families. Eugene is survived by his partner in life for the last 41 years, Judy Steffen; two daughters, Marcia Jesperson and Andrea (Roger) Hotchkiss, both of Madison; grandchildren, Chad Hotchkiss, Ryan Hotchkiss (Jennifer Heidel), Michelle Jesperson and Nicole Jesperson; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur (Charlene) Kaltenberg. He is also survived by his second family, Christine (Carlos) Benitez, Jerral (William) Miranda, Katherine Steffen and Mary (Mark) Stoflet; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine (Burnson) Kaltenberg in 1965; his parents; sisters, Christine Krueger and Elizabeth Bohnsack; and a brother, Walter Kaltenberg.
