Martha Curless

Curless, Martha OREGON - Martha Curless, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at the St. Marys Health Care Center. She was born on Nov. 21, 1914, in rural Oregon, the daughter of the late Perry and Emma (Colby) Netherwood. A 1932 graduate of Oregon High School, Martha went on to further her education at the University of Wisconsin, earning a B.S. degree in speech and English in 1936. In 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert Curless. He preceded her in death in 1993. She worked as a secretary for the Oregon School District, the Oregon School for Girls and the First Presbyterian Church of Oregon. Martha was a member of the Oregon Area Historical Society and the Oregon O.E.S. No. 49. She enjoyed genealogy and history but treasured most the time she spent with her family. Martha is survived by a daughter, Kay (Thomas) Collins of Hamilton, Ohio; a son, Mark Curless of Madison; two grandchildren, T.J. Collins and Megan Collins; and a sister-in-law, Maxine (Lincoln) Marty of Waunakee. In addition to her husband, Robert Curless, Martha was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathleen Elizabeth Collins. Funeral services will be held at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 172 N. Main St., Oregon at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, with the Rev. Clara Thompson presiding. Burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery, Oregon. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Oregon or to the Oregon Area Historical Society.
