Francis Hanson

Hanson, Francis H. MONONA Francis H. Hanson, age 88, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg. He was born on July 24, 1919, in Iowa, the son of Guy and Ida (Welty) Hanson. He married Lola Gabler on June 19, 1948, in Eau Claire and together they raised two sons and a daughter. Francis earned a bachelor of arts degree from UW-Platteville and a master of science degree from UW-Madison. He retired after a 30 year career in marketing at American Family Insurance in Madison. He served his nation and community in a variety of ways; he was a World War II veteran, Wisconsin Military Order of the Purple Heart, charter member of Monona United Methodist Church, Methodist Pine Lake Camp Committee, Sunday school teacher, Masonic Commonwealth Lodge 325, Village of Monona Trustee, Alcohol Problems Council, Dane County Bee Keepers, Nichols School PTA president, Boy Scouts leader, and Little League baseball coach. Francis is survived by his wife, Lola; two sons, Paul (Gerri) of Monona and Lloyd (Joan) of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Lynn (Bill Davis) of Mosinee; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel (Diana Ellerkamp) and Kevin of Madison, Margaret (Blake Thompson) of Carrollton, Texas, Michael of Denver, Colo., Brian of Dallas, Texas and Andrea (Jose) Aucapina of Madison; two great-grandsons, Diego and Dahmien Aucapina; brother, Leo (Lorraine); sister, Gladys Peterson, both of Seneca; brother-in-law, Robert (Delores) Gabler of Augusta; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evalyn of Prairie du Chien; and brother-in-law, William Peterson of Seneca. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at noon, with Pastor Sue Burwell officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monona United Methodist Church or the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg.
