After high school, Mac worked various jobs including as a brakeman for the railroad and as a caddy at Nemadji Golf Course in Superior. He attended several semesters at Superior State Teachers College before ending up at Whitewater State Teachers College. Macs education was interrupted in July of 1941 when he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served from 1941-1946 in the Pacific Theatre obtaining the rank of First Lieutenant. After USAFI ended its Madison operations in 1974, he worked as the director for the Greater Milwaukee Area Career Education Project and then finished his career as a test coordinator with the UW-Madison (1976-1985). Mac was an avid sports fan. He loved coaching and attending his sons games as they were growing up. In his retirement years you could find Mac at the golf course during the warm months and at the Madison Curling Club in the winter. He was active in his church, Lake Edge United Church of Christ and enjoyed working as a volunteer in tax preparation at local senior centers. He is survived by his three sons, Mike (Patty) of Custer, Wis., Tom (Heile) of Millville, Minn. and Pat from Sheboygan, Wis.; five grandchildren, Ian, Sean, Jeremiah, Nicole and Jon; and many nieces and nephews. My sincere sympathy to your family. I was a student in both your Mom and Dad's classes and enjoyed them very much. They were special teachers. I was in the class of 1955.
