Obituary

Gospodar, Dee MADISON - Delorse Virginia Gospodar, born Delorse Swan on June 10, 1920, the second child of Arthur and Hattie (Schultz) Swan of Madison, died on Tuesday, Nov.13, 2007. A lifelong Madison resident and member of Zion Lutheran Church, Dee attended Madison East High School where she co-edited the newspaper. She graduated in February 1938 and went on to attend the Groves Barnhart Secretarial School. She married George Emmet Peck in 1940 and they celebrated the birth of their beloved daughter, Jacquelyn, in March 1945. After being widowed in 1978, Dee married Richard Gospodar in 1980. She nursed her sister, Jean Wheeler devotedly before her death in 1989. Richard Gospodar died in 1998. Dee was employed at Oscar Mayer for 41 years where she joined the Oscarettes in 1953 and served as president from 1962 until 1963. She was an excellent athlete and an especially avid bowler. She attended at least 25 national womens bowling tournaments and was a member of the Madison Womens Bowling Association Hall of Fame and 600 Club. She served a term as president and was on the board of MWBA. She also served a term as president of the East Side Womens Club and was a member of the Madison Civics Club and the Red Hat Society. Dee had many, many friends and admirers, it was almost impossible to go out with her in Madison without having to stop two or three times for her to greet or be greeted. Her always pleasant and positive personality, generosity and unfailing optimism made her a wonderful friend, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt and mother-in-law. She will be greatly missed. Dee is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Mike) Cassidy; her grandchildren, Danielle and Nicholas Cassidy; her brother, Gary A. (Avis Dalton) Swan; nieces, Darcy Whitehorse and Stephanie Bentzen; and nephew, Randy Swan; as well as many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. A proud final achievement of Dees life was arranging the baptisms of Madison and Stevie Swan, Randys daughters and Lilian Yaun, daughter of Lacy Swan and granddaughter of Randy. Dee and her family were very appreciative of the superb end-of-life care she received from the Madison Hospice organization. Funeral services will be held at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2165 Linden Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, with the Rev. Pat Siegler presiding.
