Obituary

Sherven, Celestial H. MADISON - Celestial H. Sherven, age 92, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at the HospiceCare Center. She was born on Oct. 4, 1915, in Lake Delton, to Robert and Mary Hewitt. When she was little, her family moved to Madison, but she still enjoyed summers in Lake Delton with her grandmother. Celestial graduated from Madison East High School and later Madison Business College, earning a degree in accounting. After college she obtained a pilots license and enjoyed flying locally. During World War II, Celestial moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the War Production Board. She continued her love for flying, occasionally flying out of Baltimore, Md., over the East Coast. After the war Celestial moved back home to Madison where she met and then married the love of her life, Chalis Sherven, on June 4, 1950, at Bethel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two wonderful children. Celestial worked at several places including, Baron Brothers Department Store, J.C. Penney and more recently, UW-Madison, Chemical Engineering, until her retirement. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Chalis; two sons, David (Bonnie) Sherven of Baraboo, and Terry Sherven of Stoughton; and three grandchildren, Carl, Rachel and Erik. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or HospiceCare Inc. A special thanks to the staff of both Sunny Hill and HospiceCare for their kind and considerate care.
