Wayne Kerwin

Kerwin, Wayne Joseph MADISON - Wayne Joseph Kerwin, age 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007. He was born on June 17, 1929, to Joseph and Ethel (Bruns) Kerwin in Madison. Wayne served as Corporal and MP in the 1st Platoon "B" Company in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from June 1951 until 1952 and remained active in the Army Reserve upon his return from the War until honorably discharged in 1956. Wayne worked for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Transportation as an engineering specialist for 41 years, and also served as president of his departments SEA Union during that time. Wayne married Jill Fadness on Aug. 26, 1967, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and they spent 40 wonderful years together. He was an avid bowler and had participated in many bowling leagues throughout Madison, for much of his life. He also had a great love of baseball; his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves and in his younger years could recite the starting line-up of every major league team. Wayne also loved spending time with his "breakfast bunch" and "lunch bunch," as well as friends and family. He was also a passionette reader. of novels, and since his retirement in 1997, had read well over 1,000 books. Wayne is survived by his wife, Jill; son, Michael (Amy); daughter, Cindi (Shandon) Meden; two grandchildren, Megan and Katie; and sister, Ruth (Gerald) Dunn. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul (Jean) and Richard; and a sister, Edith (John) Price. Waynes generous and kind nature and his dedication to family, friends and work affected countless numbers of people throughout his lifetime. He will be missed greatly and remembered always. Funeral services will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, with Father John Meinholz presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
