Gary Day

Day, Gary L. MADISON - Gary L. Day, age 61, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital. He was born on Aug. 7, 1946, in Madison, the son of Stuart and Dorothy (Rydberg) Day. Gary worked as a sheet metal worker in Madison. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Gary also enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Badgers. He was the neighborhood handyman and all will miss him watching over the entire neighborhood. Gary was a devoted husband and care giver to his loving wife of 42 years, Jean. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Bryan) Popham of Minneapolis, Minn., Diane Holte of Madison and Dawn Day of Madison; four grandchildren, Tana (Paul) Stauffacher of Minneapolis, Minn., Sean Popham of Minneapolis, Minn., Travis Holte of Madison, and Nanette Ruppel of Madison; his mother, Dorothy Day of Madison; two brothers, Dennis (JoEllen) Day and Allen (Shelly) Day, both of Madison; a sister, Kathy Krehl of Madison; uncle, Robert Day of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Stuart; and grandmother, Julia Rydberg. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, with the Rev. John McCarthy presiding. Inurnment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. A special thank you to the nursing staff at St. Marys S.I.C.U., who opened their loving arms and hearts and invited Gary to become part of their family.
