Donald Kopp

Kopp, Donald E. MADISON - Donald E. Kopp, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Oak Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on April 23, 1929, in Platteville, the son of Henry and Ella (Cordts) Kopp. Don graduated from Platteville High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army Airborne Division No. 598 Regimental Combat Team from 1951 until 1953. Don married Margaret Schiefert on April 17, 1954, at Peace Lutheran Church, Platteville. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 42 years. Don was a member of the Badger State Airborne Association, Platteville Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the American Legion and Elks Club. He was an avid euchre player and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret; sons, Jim Kopp of Madison and Duane (Charlie) Kopp of Cottage Grove; daughter, Donna (Scott) Borchert of Cottage Grove; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Schrimpf of West Columbia, S.C., Ashley Kopp of Cottage Grove and Deanna and Jason Borchert of Cottage Grove; three great-grandchildren, Rebecka, R.J. and Kaleb; sister, Genevieve Hale of Platteville; sister-in-law, Titin Kopp; mother-in-law, Inez Scott of Rewey; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Guerdon, Raymond and Norman; sisters-in-law, Modesta and Hazel; and brother-in-law, John Hale. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, with the Rev. Allen Wahl presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
