Shannon, Richard C. MADISON - Richard C. Shannon, age 93, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at home. He was born on Aug. 19, 1914, in La Crosse. Richard was the son of Charles and Vella (Seiverson) Shannon. He graduated from East High School in Milwaukee, in 1932. On Sept. 16, 1936, Richard married Ruth Sanderson. Richard graduated from the University of Wisconsin and receiving his B.A. in 1937 and in 1941 received his M.D. From 1942 until 1946, Richard served in the military as a Major Medical Corporal. For his work in the military Richard received a Bronze star in 1945. After the war, Richard began his practice as a general surgeon in Wausau from 1946 until 1972. He worked in the emergency medical field from 1972 until 1982. He was chief of staff at St. Marys Hospital in Wausau. Richard was president and member of board of directors of the Wausau Y.M.C.A., The Wausau Club and the Chamber of Commerce, the United Way for two terms, the Elks Club, Charter member of American College of Emergency Physicians, the North Central Area Health Planning Association and the American Trauma Society. He was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity and the Psi Chi Medical Fraternity. Richard was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Richard is survived by his sons, Richard C.(Janice Krall) Shannon Jr. of Madison and Thomas G. Shannon of Wausau; daughter, Katherine Shannon of Minocqua; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his son, William Marshall Shannon and his wife, Ruth Shannon. Memorial services will be held in Wausau, at a later date.
