Obituary
MARSHALL - Leora Marian Lazar was peacefully born to eternal life on Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, 2007. She was born in Highland, on Jan. 7, 1920, the daughter of Martin and Gertrude (Kreul) Scullion. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Highland. Leora began her education at Smokey Hollow country school, where her brother, Eugene was her teacher, then attending St. Anthony Catholic School and graduated from Highland High School in 1937. While in school, Leora was active in theater, basketball and softball, as well as her chores on the farm. Leora met her husband-to-be, George Lazar during Sunday Mass on Jan. 1, 1940. During World War II, she worked at Abdoo and Kruel grocery store. When George returned from World War II, they were married on Sept. 18, 1945. To this union, seven children were born. Leora and George started their married life in Highland before moving to Detroit, Mich. In 1968, the family moved to Marshall and Leora began working at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant, Sun Prairie, where she was a trustee and on the safety committee until her retirement in 1993. She was a past president of the Ladies Altar Society of St. Mary of the Nativity Church for several years and a past president of the Marshall Memorial V.F.W. Post No. 10510. Leora loved to travel all over the United States, as her refrigerator magnets showed, she loved church, Wheel of Fortune, strawberries, pink roses, her regular luncheons with the "Goodyear Girls", and above all, her family, of which she was most proud. Leora is survived by her children, Mary Lu (Harley) Bystol of Deerfield, George of Sun Prairie, Margaret (Bill) Reynolds of McKinleyville, Calif., Christine of Madison, and Maureen (Scott) Vogel of Lexington, Ky., former daughter-in-law, Virginia (Connor) Lazar of Sun Prairie; son-in-law, James Lee of Madison; grandchildren, Jessie (Jeff) Albedyll, Jason (Kelly Peterson) Bystol, Jacob (Beth) Bystol, Jaclyn Bystol, Janette (Adrian Flores) Bystol, Jeffrey Bystol, Elizabeth (Oumar) Thiam, George Jr. and Timothy Lazar, Ryan OHara, Annie (Wesley English) OHara, Sean OHara, Rebekah Lazar, and Katie and Molly Vogel; four great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Tom; daughter, Kathleen; parents; three brothers, Emmett, Richard, and Eugene; sister, Marie; sisters-in-law, Evelyn "Toots", Gertrude, Marian, and Mary; brother-in-law, Louis; and her parents-in-law, George and Theresa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE NATIVITY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 112 S. Beebe St., Marshall, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, with Father Thomas E. Gillespie presiding. Burial will be at St. Philip Cemetery, Highland, at 2 p.m., on Sunday. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007. Her family would especially like to honor and thank Rebekah Leora Kathleen Lazar, for her loving and special care of our Momma, during her last months. Momma and Grandma will be dearly missed by all.
