Vick, Walter B. "Wally" MONONA - Walter B. "Wally" Vick, age 91, of Monona, passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Harmony Living Center in Madison. Wally was born on Dec. 29. 1915, in Madison, the son of Benjamin and Marie (Matl) Vick. He was a life long Madison resident and an East High School graduate. On July 3, 1941, Wally was united in marriage to Mildred E. "Milly" Sather in Stoughton, with a double ceremony with Millys sister, Hazel, and her late husband, Aaron Lunde. Wally was well known in the Madison area as an outstanding pitcher at Breese Stevens Field. He was an accomplished golfer and bowler as well. Wally was an avid sports fan attending UW football, basketball and hockey games. Beginning in 1930, he attended sporting activities at the University Field House "The Barn," and he opened the Kohl Center in 1998. For over 30 years, as its first salesman, Wally sold products for L and L Foods, retiring in 1977. Following his retirement, Wally found a new pastime playing the slot machines in Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Minnesota and at all of the Wisconsin Indian casinos. He loved the one-arm bandits and continuously said to relatives and friends, "one of these times, I am going to hit the big jackpot!" Wally was a member of the Madison Elks #410 Lodge for over 30 years. Since 1991, until its closing in 2005, Wally exercised three times a week at the Meriter Hospital Tower 10, where he dearly loved the fellowship of his friends. After its closing, Wally continued to exercise three times a week at Cuts on Monona Drive. Wally is survived by his wife, Milly, of 66 years; his son, John of Madison; his granddaughter, Melissa (Greg) Brantner; great-granddaughter, Caitlin of Mondovi; and many caring and loving nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie; father, Benjamin; a brother, Arthur; sisters, Burnette (Di Salvo), Florence (Lazarz) and Lydia (Read). Milly and John want to express their heartfelt thanks to Wallys team of care givers over the past year, Harmony Living Center, Madison; Dr. Al Musa and Gail, RN, Dean East Clinic; St. Marys Hospital, Madison; Skaalen Sunset Home (Unit 1), Stoughton; and the Medicine Shoppe, Madison. At Wallys request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, 601 E. Broadway, Monona. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. Up until his passing, Wally always said to John, "Go and have a good time, but watch your step."
