Obituary

Flottmeyer, Donald F. MIDDLETON/ MADISON - Donald Francis Flottmeyer, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007. He was born on Nov. 5, 1931, in La Crosse, the son of Edward A. and Caroline R. (Gilles) Flottmeyer. Don was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served his country during the Korean War. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, as a Bridge Maintenance Engineer for 31 years, retiring in 1989 and continued consulting for years after. Don was a active member of St. Bernards Catholic Church and past church council member. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 4549, the V.F.W. William "Sonny" Simon Post No. 8216 and many other community activities. Don is survived by his wife, Charlotte A. Flottmeyer of Madison; five children, Larry Flottmeyer of Madison, Wendy (Kevin) Seeman of Nederland, Colo., Sally Flottmeyer of Middleton, Dan Flottmeyer of Madison and Andy (Ellen) Flottmeyer of Madison; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Belden, Raymond Seeman and Hannah, Issac and Caleb Flottmeyer; a sister, Monica (Clarence) Forer of La Crosse; two brothers, Joe (Peg) Flottmeyer of La Crosse and Steve (Ann) Flottmeyer of St. Paul, Minn.; nieces , nephews and many other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Marge Stremcha, Mary Smith, Jan Johnson and Rosie Dayton and three brothers, Al, Robert and Dave Flottmeyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton. Friends may also call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Sympathies to Don's family. Don invited me to a party in the 1960's and I met my wife there. I blame him for that, or I should thank him 43 years later. Don was a great guy, friend and fellow DOT employee. Paul and Joan Anderson
