Shelton, Doris Amanda MADISON/ CARY, ILL. - Doris Amanda Shelton has gone to meet her Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at age 94. She had been living at the Fountains in Crystal Lake, Ill. Doris entered the world on July 21, 1913, born to Severt and Bertha (Pederson) Sorenson in Madison. She was confirmed in her faith in Jesus at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison, on May 27, 1929. Doris graduated from Madison East High School and Madison Business College. She married Maurice M. Shelton on Sept. 4, 1937. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1977. From this marriage came two children, Nancy and Robert. Doris loved growing up in Madison, near the lakes with all they have to offer year round. Those were "the good old days." Her interests included playing golf, bowling, playing cards, dancing and traveling with her husband to several countries. Besides Madison, she lived in Detroit, Mich., Palatine, Ill., Mountain Home, Ark., and Seal Beach, Calif. The Lord blessed Doris life, she experienced a lot in a relatively short period of time. She learned to drive her dads car, a 1922 "crank" Studebaker, at age 16. Forty years later, she and her husband lived in Germany, while Maurice was working for the government in the Government Accounting Office. Doris celebrated her birthday on July 21, 1969, when John Glenn landed on the moon (European time) In 94 years, Doris has come full circle. Born in Madison, traveled around the world and back to rest in Madison, until the Lords Resurrection Day, to spend eternity with Him. Doris is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Allen) Israel of Cary, Ill.; son, Robert (Betsy) Shelton of Balboa Island, Calif.; six grandchildren, Sheri (Dean) Mysliwiec, Terri (Chris) Simon, Paul (Kelly) Israel, Dorine (Kenneth) Reinert, Erik (Susan) Israel and Scott (Trisha) Shelton; 11 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents. A graveside service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 3 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, with the Rev. John Ruppenthal presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Cary, Ill. or to a favorite charity in Doris name.
