Ione Evans

Evans, Ione E. MADISON - Ione Elizabeth Evans, age 87, passed away on Friday, Aug. 31, 2007. She was born on Aug. 10, 1920, in Fond du Lac, to Fred Schwartz and Elizabeth Cortte. She graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1946 and she proceeded to teach school in Denmark and New Glarus. Ione married Elray Herbert Evans on Feb. 23, 1946, in Denmark and then moved to Madison. Ione worked at Oscar Mayer Foods for five years, at the Madison Lutheran School as a secretary, and later as a crossing guard for 11 years. Ione loved to bowl, being part of a Friday morning league for 26 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and was in a 500 card club for many years. She was a charter member of Eastside Lutheran Church. Ione is survived by her husband, Elray; son, Bruce (Cheryl) of New Berlin; two grandchildren, Jennifer in Washington State and Brian in Minnesota; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fritz, Leslie, Lee, Ray, and Wilbur Schwartz; and sister, Pearl. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sep. 4, 2007, with the Rev. Glen Schmiege presiding. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Eastside Lutheran School affiliated with the Eastside Lutheran Church.
