Rogers, Lois Edith (Etcheson) COTTAGE GROVE - Lois Edith (Etcheson) Rogers, age 94, of Cottage Grove, passed away surrounded by her family at the HospiceCare Center on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007. She was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Amboy-Dixon, Ill., the daughter of Bessie (Holforty) and Elijah Etcheson. She was united in marriage to Arland I. Rogers on May 25,1947, at University Christian Church in Champaign, Ill. A graduate of Moore Township High School, Farmer City, Ill., she became a licensed beautician for Osee Beauty Salon and Stensel Funeral Home. She also worked for Standard and Poors in New Haven, Conn., the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana, an Avon representative, and was the first Cottage Grove correspondent for five newspapers, before becoming administrative assistant to the director of dietary at Madison General Hospital (now Meriter) until her retirement in 1977. Lois was active in PTA, Dane County Health Council and Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School teacher, an officer in the Ladies Union and Eve Circle. Her hobbies included painting, quilting, gardening, traveling extensively to all 50 states, and she deeply cherished time with her family. Survivors include her three children, Kathy (Dale) Farwell of Cottage Grove, Charlie Rogers of Cottage Grove and Ted (Mary) Rogers of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Christopher (Maureen Fitzgerald) Farwell of Milwaukee, Stephanie Farwell of Cottage Grove, Elizabeth "Liza" (Ian) Hank of Warroad, Minn., Lindsey Rogers of Phoenix, Ariz. and Matthew Rogers also of Phoenix, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren, Kambria Kay Farwell of Cottage Grove, Kenady Drew Farwell of Milwaukee, and Sarah Elizabeth and Noah Edward Hank of Warroad, Minn. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Genevieve Etcheson; and five nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Arland in 1985; her parents, Elijah in 1919, and Bessie in 1977; brother, Audrey Thomas Etcheson in 1978; and sisters, Vivian Smith in 2000, and Doris Raforth in 2002. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at 11 a.m. at BRYN MAWR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 229 N. Main Street in Cottage Grove, with the Rev. Sandy Nuernberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Cambria Cemetery in Cambria. Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, Aug 8, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Colonial Club Senior Day Center in Sun Prairie, Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Cottage Grove, or to HospiceCare Inc., Fitchburg. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God took you home. Your memory is our keepsake with which well never part. God has you in His keeping, we hold you in our hearts.
