Garfoot, Eugene K. Gene CROSS PLAINS - Eugene Garfoot, age 74, passed away Friday, July 6, 2007. He was born May 5, 1933, in the Town of Cross Plains, the son of Earl, Sr. and Genevieve (Powers) Garfoot. Gene was a lifelong resident of Cross Plains. He married Rosemary Dahmen Hellenbrand in Mazomanie Sept. 29, 1973, and he became the loving father of her children. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Gene worked for Capital Sand and Gravel for 40 years retiring in 1998. He was an avid deer, raccoon, and pheasant hunter. He also enjoyed fishing and card playing. Gene was a member of the Cross Plains Old Timers Softball Team, former member of the Cross Plains Home Talent Baseball Team and Black Earth Home Talent Baseball Team. Gene is survived by his children, Daniel ?Helm? (Debbie) Hellenbrand, William (Marilyn) Hellenbrand of Cross Plains, Vincent ?Smiley? (Liz)Hellenbrand, Paul (Patti) Hellenbrand of Mazomanie, Marie Swenson of Middleton, Jane (Bruce) Bowden of Dodgeville, and Lois (Vern) Boehnen of Cross Plains; 17 grandchildren, Joy (Scott) Yingling, Tracy (Chris) Price, Farin and Ashley Hellenbrand, Tina (Pat)Brown, Melissa (Eric Spangler) Swenson, Angela, Michael, and David Swenson, Scott (Chris)Bowden, Stefny (Kostya)Kolesnikov, Colleen and Peter Hellenbrand, Kari (Steve) Cantwell, Dale (Jessi) Hellenbrand, and Mindy and Nathan Boehnen; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Noreen Esser of Cross Plains; a brother, Earl (Frances)Garfoot, Jr. of Mt. Vernon; nieces, nephews, relatives,friends, including special friend, Flora Bergmann. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; parents; a brother, John (Margaret) Garfoot; and brother-in-law, Tom Esser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes Street, Cross Plains, on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 11 a.m. with Father Tom Kelley presiding. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at church with a scripture service at 3:45 p.m. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at church.
