Leroy Jahnke

Jahnke, Leroy H. MADISON - Leroy H. Jahnke died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Oakwood Village East with family at his side. He was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Red Lake Falls, Minn. After a brief stint as a beekeepers assistant in Florida, he joined the Army. He served in World War II with the 270th Field Artillery, part of Pattons forces that landed in Normandy and marched to the Rhineland. After the war, he took advantage of the GI Bill and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He was hired by the Boeing Company where he worked for 37 years. He ended his career as a liaison engineer, making sure that what the engineers designed, the builders could manufacture. Beside his work, Leroy was a big fan of baseball, bingo and the "one armed bandit". How fitting then that he should pass on 07/07/07. Leroy was preceded in death by Geneva, his wife of 48 years; and by a brother, Wilbur. He is survived by his son, Wayne of Seattle, Wash.; his daughter, Dae Jean and her husband Russ Vogel of Madison; a sister, Carolyn Head and a brother, Russ both of California. Graveside services will be held in Seattle at a future date to be determined.
