Basche, Scott FITCHBURG- Scott Basche, died on Sunday, July 1, 2007, after a graceful and inspiring battle with cancer. He was born on Oct. 7, 1959, in Drayton, N.D., to Donald and Marcia (Schissel) Basche. He was raised in Worthington, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1978. Scott was an athlete and competed in many sports while in high school and college. He graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Fall, S.D., with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration. He married Lori Berkland on April 7, 1984, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Scott began working for Lutheran Brotherhood in 1984, as a district representative and accepted a management position with what is now known as Thrivent Financial in 1992. He was a motivational leader and will be remembered for rewarding co-workers with $2 bills and marathon euchre games. Scott has loved to hunt and fish since he was a young boy and has been a devoted University of Wisconsin fan, especially basketball, since moving to Madison in 1999. Scott is survived by his wife, Lori Basche; two children, Danielle Ã???Dani and Joseph Ã???Joe his parents, Donald and Marcia Basche of Worthington, Minn.; mother-in-law, Phyllis Berkland of Sioux Falls, S.D.; brother, Jeff and his wife, Julie; sister, Teresa and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Orville Berkland. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007, with the Rev. William White presiding. A time for visitation accompanied with light refreshments will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or Augustana College. A special thank you to University Hospital and Clinics and to the HospiceCare Inc. for the loving care Scott received. Scott touched many lives and he will be greatly missed by all. I will always remember Scott for his ever upbeat personality. When I think of Scott I think of the times my Dad and I spent with him hunting ducks in SD at the place we called Graceville. Perhaps my Dad and Scott are now remembering those times as well since they are now together in God's kingdom. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Scott was an inspiration to us all.
