Gertrude Hughes

Hughes, Gertrude B. MADISON Gertrude B. Hughes, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2007, at HospiceCare Center. She was born on Aug. 13, 1918, in Monroe, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Ruppert) Kammer. Gertie was united in marriage to Thomas Hughes on Jan. 27, 1942. She worked at Singer Company for many years. Gertie then later retired from General Casualty Insurance. She volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and was instrumental in the child safety seat program. Gertie was very active with V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 1318 and in the community. She was a den mother for both cub scouts and boy scouts. Gertie was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends including her five children, Thomas; (Judy) of Madison, Robert (Kathy) of Madison, Deborah Kay Goldstein of Ottawa, Canada, Nannette (Chuck) Stoflet of Sun Prairie and Susie (Staale) Rod of Singapore; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; niece, Barbara (Jim) Putman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in February 1971; her parents; sister, Dorothy Feller; and three brothers, Gottfried, Russell and Martin Kammer. Funeral services will be held at EVANGEL LIFE CENTER, 4402 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 5, 2007, with the Rev. John Clark presiding. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thrusday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
