Sparks, Janice D. PORTAGE/ MADISON - Janice D. Sparks, age 68, of Portage, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007, at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 10, 1939, at St. Marys Hospital, Madison, the daughter of Arnold and Ruth (Goodwin) Kujath. Janice graduated from Madison East High School. She was united in marriage to James Sparks on May 6, 1961, in Madison. Janice had worked for General Telephone, before joining the Madison Police Department. After taking time to raise her two children, Janice returned to the workforce, working for the Department of Justice until her retirement and for a short time for the Lands Office, Portage. She was an excellent bowler and was a secretary for the Bowl-a-Vard Womens League during the 1970s. Janice enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, playing cards, listening to Frank Sinatra and the Green Bay Packers. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, James; her mother, Ruth Kujath; two children, David (Kari) and Judy (Peter) Allen; five grandchildren, Nicole, Julianne, Cory, Max and Noah; and a great-grandchild, Nevaeh. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Arnold; and a grandson, Derek. Memorial services will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, with the Rev. Shirley Funk presiding. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the chapel from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
