Obituary

Lazarz, Edward J. MADISON - Edward J. Lazarz, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital, Madison. He was born on Feb. 19, 1920, the son of William and Anna (Kubicek) Lazarz. Eddie graduated from Madison East High School in 1938. He started his military career in 1943, in the Naval Air Corps. Eddie later served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in France with the 90th Division, as a "Tough Ombre." He received many commendations including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Eddie was united in marriage to Rosella McCormick on April 22, 1944, who wrote in her autobiography, "Eddie is my lover and friend for life." She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2001. He worked for Madison Gas and Electric for 28 years, retiring in 1982. Eddie was a lifetime member of Madison Elks Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and bowling, but his main love was his family. Eddie devoted his life to caring for his wife, six children and his father-in-law, Ret. Madison Police Chief, William H. McCormick. Eddie instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of love of family. He was a gracious and caring man, who had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile for everyone he met. Eddie touched the lives of many people and will be deeply missed by his friends and family, including his six children, W. Mark (Marilyn) Lazarz of Hubertus, Patricia "Patsy" (Warren) Carriveau of Hartland, Ginni (Neil) Jones of Fitchburg, Janet (Gary) Aide of Madison, Mary (Jan) Van de Grift of Fitchburg and Noel Lazarz of Madison; 18 grandchildren, Michelle, George, Jennifer, Jessica, Jolynn, John, Joseph, Anna, Abigail, Amanda, Staci, Kelli, Sean, Katie, Lindsay, Melanie, Michael and Jacob; and seven great-grandchildren. Eddie also loved his many nieces and nephews who brought him great joy. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Bill and Tony; and sisters, Annie and Margaret, our "Auntie," who was a very special part of our family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 7, 2007. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Eddies family wishes to thank Dr. Ozers and Bette from Dean Clinic, and also Barb, Deloros, Eva, Kim, Meliha, Rebecca, Tenzing, Tsetan and his many other caregivers and friends at St. Marys Care Center. "I have lived a full and fruitful life. Do not mourn and do not weep, for I have earned this peaceful sleep."
