Obituary

Lewis, Orison Henry "Louie" MADISON - Orison "Louie" Lewis, Age 82, died on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Johnson/Anderson HospiceCare. Louie was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Madison, the son of Mark and Eleanor Brollier-Lewis. Louie was an avid sportsman, a master Muskie fisherman and lure maker, and an enthusiastic fan of boxing, football and baseball. Louie had a great sense of humor. His tipped cap, suspenders, happy smile, and wave were his trademarks. Louie had a positive, generous way and was always helpful to others. People enjoyed being in his presence and were lucky to call him a friend. Louie was very proud of his Navy career and the tattoos he acquired as a sailor in World War II where he saw considerable action in the European Theatre; Western Front and Mediterranean Theatre. Louie often recalled battles hed fought in, most notably an amphibious assault at Anzio Italy where he earned three battle stars. While in the amphibious unit, Louie also went to Greece, Egypt, Africa, Italy, France, Tunisia, England, Elba and Sardinia. After the war Louies worldwide travels took him to pre-Castro Havana, and across America. Louie returned to Wisconsin and took a security guard position at the UW Memorial Library where he worked for over 30 years and received Governor Tommy Thompsons service award. Louie was raised in foster care by Amanda and Joseph Hoel of Deerfield. Louie attended the Nora one-room school until the eighth grade. Louie is survived by his long-time partner, Ann Kaufman; adopted children, Julie Kaufman and Liz Feagles, Robert and Denise Kaufman, and David and Laura Kaufman; and his foster family, Eldon and Audrey Hoel, Joseph (deceased) and Lorraine Hoel. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. John Ruppenthal will be officiating.
