Powers, James Patrick > MADISON - James "Jim" Powers, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2007. He was born on March 21, 1918, in Highland, to Robert and Rachael (Nolan) Powers. Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Rosemary Phelan in July 1942 and they had two children. Jim opened his heart and home to Rosemarys siblings, when their parents passed away. Rosemary preceded him in death in September 1968. Jim married Margaret "Peg" Moon in March 1972. They lived in Florida for 18 years during their retirement, recently returning to Madison. Jim was very kind and gentle. He was a great father and husband. His upbeat sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his wife, Peg; his children, Bonnie Mackesey of Madison and Patricia (Bill) Murphy of Belleville; grandchildren, Jeff (Erin) Mackesey, Steve (Sarah) Mackesey and Kelli (Gene Schamburg) Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Noelle and Jason Mackesey; a sister, Gert Boehmer; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Hanson and Betty Ann Sperstad; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anastacia, Mary and Leone; brothers, Robert and John; and son-in-law, Tom Mackesey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007, with Monsignor Delbert Schmelzer presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
