Obituary
Maurer, Evelyn Due MADISON/ OSHKOSH - Evelyn Due Maurer, age 75, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born June 15, 1931, at home in Woodford, to Benjamin and Inez (Olsen) Due. With her four sisters, she attended the Woodford State Grade School through eighth grade at which time her family moved to Monroe where she attended high school, graduating in 1949. Evelyn worked as a secretary at the Monroe Clinic and attended business college. She then worked at the Pure Oil Company in Madison where she became an assistant credit manager. She was a secretary to the Dean of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, while supporting her husband in school. In 1958 she left the work force to become a full-time mother. In 1965 she and her husband moved to Oshkosh to start a new business. After raising two wonderful daughters she returned to work as secretary and office manager for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Oshkosh for 9 years. Evelyn was a very serious bridge player, a trophy winning member of the Oshkosh Lakeshore Golf League for many years, and skied with family and friends over 20 years. In 1999 she and her husband retired to Madison. Survivors include her husband, Rudy; two daughters, Gretchen (Dr. Eugene) Cropp of Verona, Jane C. Maurer of Westminster, Colo.; granddaughters, Jaclyn and Rachel Cropp; four sisters, Joyce (Bill) Orton of Waukesha, Ruby (Keith) Tanke of Naples, FL, Marian (Glenn) Gruenberg of Bloomington, Gladys (Charles) Bohren of Loves Park, Ill.; an uncle, Lewis Olsen of Wiota; a sister-in-law, Ruth Barth of Monroe, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2007 with the Reverend Curt Everson presiding. A private burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Family and friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 517 N. Segoe Road., No. 301, Madison, WI 53705.
