Chilton, Henry W. MADISON - Henry W. Chilton, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Sonrisas Senior Citizen Care in Verona. He was born on Nov. 2, 1920, in Paola, Kansas, the son of Wade and Ruth (Drury) Chilton. Henry grew up on the family homestead in Woodward, Oklahoma. After his father died in 1936, Henry and his mother continued to farm until 1937. His family then moved back to Kansas. Henry worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Oklahoma and Colorado until 1940. He was very proud to say that in 1940 he was baptized in a Baptist church, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Henry proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Henry served with the 7th U.S. Army, invading Salerno, Italy, Sicily, Italy and Anizo, Italy. Also during the war, he was stationed in Africa and France. After Henry moved to Madison, he worked 15 years for Renschler Floral as a gardener and also worked for Research Products. He loved working with plants, being outside and reading spiritual and bible related books. Henry was a soft spoken, kind hearted person who spent many years caring for his mother. He was a resident of Pleasant View Place, assisted living, 510 N. Gammon Rd. for 20 years, moving only recently to Sonrisas in Verona. The staff and other residents at Pleasant View loved Henry and enjoyed his positive outlook and great sense of humor and warmth. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Chilton and infant brother, Drury Chilton.
