Hanson, Robert Gilman MONONA - Robert Gilman Hanson, age 85, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Skaalen Home, Stoughton. He was born on Sept. 3, 1921, to Arthur and Emma (Pfrimmer) Hanson. Robert graduated from Madison East High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Helen Mae Pobanz, on June 2, 1945. He was a traveling salesman, selling hardware and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. When he retired, Robert and Helen were snowbirds in Arizona for 12 years with special friends, Don and Sylvia Heavy. Robert loved boats, cars, playing golf, shooting pool, drawing and building things, from playhouses to homes. He loved music, especially his player piano. Robert had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke and a smile. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Jeanine (Carl Pruess) Hanson and DeAnne (Brad) Lenz; a sister, Ardith Streber; brother, Richard K. Hanson; and many relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret Lutz. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2007, with the Rev. Richard Blomker presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Skaalen Home. A special thank you to the staff of Meadowmere Assisted Living, for their care and to Skaalen Home, for their gracious and dignified end of life care. Robert was the best husband and dad anyone could have had. His zest for life was evident through his family and many friends.
