Garnet Baker

Gunderson Funeral Home Baker, Garnet MADISON - Garnet Baker, age 101, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. She was born on April 3, 1906, in Mount Horeb, the daughter of John and Lena (Vogel) Monum. Garnet married Arthur Baker on Nov. 26, 1924, he preceded her in death in 1973. She was a Madison resident since 1922 and worked as a secretary and accountant for Burgess Battery and Midwest Electric Sales. Garnet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, TLCW, Deborah Circle and she also taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was a member of the Eastside Womens Club and enjoyed fishing. She is survived by a sister, Jeanette (Robert) Frank of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Evie Monum of Mount Horeb and Ruth Monum of Stoughton; four nephews, Elmer (Norma) Baker of Mount Horeb, Robert (Mary Dee) Frank II of San Francisco, Calif., Russell Julseth of Hong Kong and John (Linda) Monum of Fort Collins, Colo.; four nieces, Jacqueline Lindguest of Irvine, Calif., Carol Volk of Lake Placid, Fla., Ruth Roedell of Stoughton and Janet (Gordon) Greenham of San Jose, Calif.; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; parents; two brothers, Arthur Monum, in 1969 and Harold Monum, in 1992; a sister, Alice Julseth, in 2000; a sister-in-law, Mildred Baker, in 1995; and a nephew, Richard Monum, in 1961. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 2 p.m., at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, with the Rev. John Ruppenthal presiding. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home form 1 p.m., until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Shriners Childrens Hospital, Salvation Army or the Rescue Mission.
