Beth Birkel

Birkel, Beth M. SUN PRAIRIE - Beth M. Birkel, age 52, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2007, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. She was born on June 3, 1954, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Stanley and Frances Skudlarek. Beth grew up in New York, and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1972. She married in 1974 to Glenn E. Gornie and had two children. Beth later married again to Thomas Birkel in 1987. They started their new life in Sun Prairie with her children. Beth is survived by her children, Christina (fiance, David Ophime), Douglas Jarrett and Glenn (Kristin) Gornie; and her grandchildren, Ashlea Jarrett, Marybeth Gornie, Nicholas Gornie, David Ophime and Hunter Gornie. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 6, 2007, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Thursday, April 5, 2007. We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to City Views staff for their care and compassion. "There are many people that she loved and they loved her very much. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She will always be in our hearts, she was one of a kind. Anyone that knew Beth will never forget her, shell be in our memories forever. We love you so much Mom, and we will never let you go. Every time we close our eyes, we can see your beautiful smile. Your smile would light up the room. We are going to miss you very much.
