James Stone

Stone, James David OREGON - James David Stone, age 82, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2007, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Oct. 2, 1924, in Oregon, the son of James and Clarabell (Sharp) Stone. Jim was united into marriage with Lila M. Joppa on Nov. 1, 1947, in Oregon. He worked for the Oregon School District for 38 years in the maintenance department. Jim also worked part time at the school swimming pool for seven years after retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting (especially turkey hunting) and being outdoors on his familys hunting property. Jim also enjoyed the monthly card club that he belonged to and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lila of Oregon; two sons, Dennis of Briggsville, and James of Oregon; four grandchildren, Crystal, Amanda, Lindsay and Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Ian, Leah, Braydon, Jaydon and Brooklyn; and a sister, Betty (Carl) Andersen. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mary, Margaret, Elinor and John. Funeral services will be held at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 172 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 15, 2007, with the Rev. Clara Thompson presiding. Burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery, Oregon. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., or to the church.
