Apollonia Acker

Acker, Apollonia M. MIDDLETON - Apollonia Mary Acker, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the Alterra Sterling House in Middleton. She was born on Feb. 17, 1917, in the Town of Springfield, the daughter of Frederick and Catherine (Balzer) Bollenbeck. She married Edwin Acker on Feb. 8, 1938, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Ashton. They celebrated their 69th anniversary in 2007. Apollonia farmed with her husband for over 50 years on her home farm. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and playing cards. She provided loving child care for her grandchildren. Apollonia had an amazing memory for dates, such as, birth dates, anniversaries, and other occasions. She was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Middleton where she was active with the Christian Mothers and Altar Society and the 5-0 Club. Apollonia is survived by her husband, Edwin Acker; sons, Donald (Mary Jo) Acker, Stephen Acker, Michael Acker, Gerald (Jeanine) Acker, and Richard (Darlene) Acker all of Middleton, and Stanley (Marlies) Acker of Redgranite; daughters, Diane (Wayne) Dohse and Jean (David) Frisch also of Middleton; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Helen Bollenbeck. Apollonia was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Catherine Bollenbeck; daughter, Rosemary Acker; brother, Matt Bollenbeck; sister, Gertrude Frederick; and brother-in-law, Joseph Frederick. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Burial will be at St. Peters Cemetery in Ashton following the service. Friends may call at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. There will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. There will also be a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church on Wednesday. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Alterra Sterling House in Middleton and Hospice Care for their loving care and support. Also thank you to Monsignor Douglas Dushack, Adrieane Laravuso, and Sister John Rose for their many visits and prayers. Be not sorrowful that I am gone and my earthly life is done. Be not sad I passed away. For in you my children, I live each day. There is a little of me in all of you. I had my share of love, sorrow and strife. I have lived a full and fruitful life. So do not mourn, and do not weep, for I have earned this peaceful sleep. You were a wonderful and carrying mother. We all love you and will miss you.
