Ruth Wagner

Wagner, Ruth M. MADISON - Ruth M. Wagner, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends, following a brief illness. She was born on the family farm in Cottage Grove, on Nov. 30, 1913, to August and Pauline (Homburg) Freund. Ruth graduated from Madison East High School in 1930. She was united in marriage to Walter A. Wagner in 1938. Ruth worked for the state of Wisconsin, Division of Motor Fuel Tax and then the Reference and Loan Library, retiring in 1975. She was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church. Ruth enjoyed playing bingo at least twice weekly, and "family friendly" euchre and cribbage. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at their weekend get-away cabin in Adams Friendship. Ruth is survived by her son, Robert (Sydnie) Wagner of North Carolina; a daughter, Carol (Colin) Duffy of Madison; grandchildren, Mary (Ben Frank) Duffy of Middleton, and Matthew Duffy and Molly Duffy, both of Madison; step-grandchildren, Chris and Carol; and a sister, Dorothy Larson of McFarland. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Jean Wagner Schmutzler; and sister, Marie Dahlen. Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Highway AB, Cottage Grove, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2007, with the Rev. Chris Lee Thompson presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
