Obituary

Scheid, David E. MCFARLAND - David E. Scheid, age 65, a kind, quiet, honest, loving man, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in a snorkeling accident at Smugglers Beach on Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands. He was born in Campbellsport, on his fathers birthday, March 6, 1942. Dave was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran. He married Linda Trappe on Feb. 13, 1974, in Madison, then flew to Aspen, Colo., beginning a lifelong love for one another. Dave was just weeks away from retirement with Pellitteri Waste Systems, where he had been their controller. He leaves behind friends from softball, tennis, golf, skiing, Pairables, the 9:16 a.m. breakfast group, the October Leaf Peepers gang, co-workers from Pellitteri Waste System and Kilgust Mechanical, and friends. Dave was looking forward to Bethel Lutheran Churchs 22nd annual Bike-a-thon on June 9, 2007, where he served on the committee and planned to pedal the entire Military Ridge distance to Bethel Horizons. He served as a Bethel Lutheran Group Four usher since 1991. Described by many people as the rock, Dave leaves his wife, Linda; a daughter, Lindsey; a son, Brian; daughter-in-law, Deana Jansa-Scheid; a grandson, Luke Waldbillig; a sister, Mary Ann (Al) Serwe; his nephew, Joe Serwe; a niece, Judy (Jim) Kneiszel, and their children, Henry and Wilson; an uncle, Art (Eileen) Wendt; aunts, Arlene (Dennis) Tennier, and Mary Lou Wendt; and treasured friends, Dr. Terri and Mark Kulie, and their children, Katie and godson, Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ethel Scheid; a niece, Cheryl Serwe; and in-laws, Vilas and Bernice Trappe. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2007, with the Rev. Curt Everson and the Rev. Pedro Suarez presiding. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2007. Although flowers and plants would be beautiful, if you wish to send a memorial, the family suggests the Dave Scheid Memorial Sport Court fund at Bethel Horizons, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI 53703 or Wisconsin Academy of Graduate Service Dogs (W.A.G.S.), 1338 Dewey Court, Madison, WI 53703. Dave was a life long blood donor and platelet donor, donating more than 195 times, and blood donations would be welcome in his name. Dave leaves a powerful legacy of love and integrity with his family and those who knew him. The suddenness of this accident leaves us breathless. Grateful thanks go to Rob, Dave and Mike Barrett of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Christine Richards, Tortolas West End police, Road Towns Emergency Medical Team, Peebles Hospital ER Nurse Lesley Noble, Naomi Minkoff of the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board, Diane and Bruce Johnson of Dorset, Vt., Dorothy De Nonno, and Carol A. Vanterpool of Turtle Dove Cottages. God quickly demonstrated his loving care with all those that have helped us cope the past few days. Dave has left our family with beautiful memories of a solid citizen, loving husband and nurturing father.

Dearest Linda and Family! Needless to say I was terribly shocked and saddened to find David has left this world. I cannot tell you how deeply your loss has affected me even though I have not seen him nor you for many years. My memories of Dave are so very vivid. I have tried to tell my husband what an amazingly patient and sensible and kind David was. I clearly recall that he was such a calming and stable influence on the 'two of us,' Linda, as we invented marvelous craft ideas! I can only tell you, friend, that I have the deepest sympathy for you, your family, your friends. The grief is immense. The shock is beyond comprehension. We will be sending a memorial to the WAGS organization. When you can manage a phone call please know I am here in Richland 'Cenner!'
