Obituary
Berg, Roger Ramon STOUGHTON - Roger R. Berg, age 54, of Stoughton, took Jesus hand and walked into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007. His homecoming occurred surrounded by family at his bedside and the loving prayers of many friends and relatives. Chris Cook, of Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church, blessed those present at the time of death with his compassionate support. Pastors Thomas Petersen and Todd McVey also faithfully served Rogers family throughout his year long cancer battle. The kindness of this church family will never be forgotten. The invaluable assistance of Janesville Hospice Care Inc. is also sincerely appreciated as they assisted with their skills and tender care. Roger was born on May 17, 1952, in Chicago, Ill., spending his childhood in Itasca. He was a 1975 graduate of Michigan Tech University, Houghton, Mich. Attending college during the championship season of the Houghton Huskies ice hockey team, Roger and his entire family have continued to follow and enthusiastically support the team. Fittingly, the Huskies swept the Badgers the weekend of Rogers death. Roger worked for 18 years at Stoughton Trailers where he held the position of production machine technician operator. His supervisors and co-workers showed themselves to be a true family as they offered their constant encouragement. Cindy Berg, also employed at Stoughton Trailers, offers special thanks for their personal support as she faithfully stood at her husbands side. A member of Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church, Stoughton, Roger married Cindy Koenig there on Aug. 5, 2000. They enjoyed a blended family of three daughters and two sons. Roger is survived by his wife, Cindy and children; son, Preston (Jess) Berg; daughters, Rochelle and Shannon; stepdaughter, Nicole (Rob) Lamers; and stepson, Jason (Lisa) Feudner; as well as beloved step-grandson, Ryan Lamers. Roger is further survived by his mother, Leona Berg; and sisters, Pat (Herb) Nordbrock, Mickey Bost and Karen (Paul) Prowitz. His father, Gordon Berg; and brother-in-law, Tom Bost preceded him in death. Roger was deeply touched by the love of his nieces and nephews throughout his courageous battle, Kristen (Pete) Disher, Kurt (Amy) Nordbrock, Erica (Richard) Franklin, Michael (Penny) Bost, Donald (Sandy) Bost, David (Jennifer) Prowitz, Daniel Prowitz and Vikki Prowitz. Many great-nieces and great-nephews also admired the bravery of their great-uncle. Rogers family loved the outdoors, camping regularly on the shores of Lake Superior at McLain State Park, Upper Michigan Peninsula. A talented gardener and landscaper, Roger inherited these skills from his father, Gordon. His son, Preston, is carrying on the generational legacy of this Berg green thumb. Cindy and Roger also worked in their yard regularly as a way to unwind together, often followed by a nice walk with Sheba, the familys Siberian Husky. A celebration of Rogers life will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD BY THE LAKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1860 U.S. Highway 51, Stoughton, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2007. A fellowship meal will follow the memorial service. Memorials to Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church Building Fund, would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers.

I am unable to explain why.... Last night, I woke from a dream of Roger, who was a co-worker at Jewel Foods in Wood Dale IL in 1972-73. Roger was the "instigator" for my visiting Michigan Tech during winter carnival and ultimately selecting Tech to pursue my bachelor's degree. Such a special human being!
