Obituary

Richter, Marla J. MADISON - Marla Jean Richter, age 68, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her family in loving care at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007. She was born in Egan, S.D., on Sept. 6, 1939, to Clifford and Dorothy Reed. On June 5, 1959, she was married to Stanley Richter in Egan, S.D. Marla will be remembered most for her generous Christian spirit and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. In addition to caring for her family she touched the lives of countless young children through her loving and patient nature while teaching pre-school at Asbury United Methodist Church in Madison, where she was a long time member. She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Reed; father-in-law, LaMont Richter; and mother-in-law, Ardyth Richter. Marla is survived by her husband, Stan; three children, Jeff Richter of Missoula, Mont., Janna Richter and her husband, Al Smith of Madison and Jacki and her husband, Joe Greene of Madison; five grandchildren, Brooke and Marlee Richter of Missoula, Mont., and Owen, Baily and Lindsey Greene of Madison; her mother, Dorothy Reed of Egan, S.D.; a brother, Gary Reed and his wife, Sue of Rapid City, S.D.; and many relatives and friends. Marla felt blessed to share the company of many wonderful friends and relatives over the years. We would like to recognize her devoted friends, Sally Gaard; her dear cousin, Sandra Duncan and Julie Nondorf, who held a special place in Marlas heart. Special thanks to the dedicated doctors and nurses at University Hospital, who supported Marla and our family through the years as she battled cancer and to the amazing individuals at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, who helped Marla and our family find peace in her final days. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007. Following a private family graveside service, please join us at 4 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 as we celebrate Marlas life at ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Ave., Madison, with the Rev. Harold Zimmick presiding. Immediately following the service we will gather for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Stan, Jeff, Jana and Jacki (and extended family and friends), please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of our dear friend Marla. As I told Stan the other day, Marla was as much a family member to the McCormick clan as anyone and holds a special place in our family. She was truly the dearest friend and confidant our Mother (Mary Jean) had on this earth. The thought that they are reunited in Heaven and that her suffering has ended are the only comforting thoughts. Marla and Stan were always there for us in our time of need. All those times I needed a place to stay while back and forth to Boston, the door was always unlocked and the bed was turned down. Marla was always there with a hug and a smile. Think of the happy times and share a good laugh as you celebrate her wonderful life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Tom, Madeline, Daniella & Brennan McCormick
