Melvin Veith

Veith, Melvin A. MADISON - Melvin A. Veith, age 82, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Meriter Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 22, 1924, in Sun Prairie, to Leslie and Helen (Krebs) Veith. Melvin married Mary Scheu on March 1, 1949, in Madison. He loved farming in his early years, and planted Christmas trees for his children and grandchildren to cut at Christmas time. Melvin worked at Oscar Mayer for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a Bears fan, and especially enjoyed family barbecues and spending time with his family. Melvin is survived by his children: Mike (Ann) Veith of DeForest; Steve Veith (fiance, Bonnie Sherman) of Sebring, Fla.; Dave (Judy) Veith, Don (Deb) Veith, and Bonnie (DuWayne) Stark, all of Sun Prairie; many loving grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Loye and Margie Matney, both of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law, Betty Veith of Madison; and former wife, Mary Tech of Sun Prairie. He was preceded in death by his parents; four infant children, Ricky, Mary Jo, Joseph, and Mary Beth; a brother, Ray; sister-in-law, Marlene; and a special friend, Mary Boyle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2007, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Entombment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2007, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
