Obituary

Lazar, Thomas Douglas Organ pic here MARSHALL - Thomas Douglas Lazar, whom we greatly loved, died on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital, Madison, from complications due to a stroke. He was born May 24, 1946, at St. Josephs Hospital in Dodgeville, and was raised in Detroit, Mich. From making model airplanes in fourth grade to professional automobile drag racing as a young adult, Tom had many passions in his life. He was a career auto mechanic, an avid photographer, enjoyed snowmobiling, played hockey and was an accomplished archer and outdoorsman. He was a licensed pilot and a Major in the Wisconsin Civil Air Patrol. His enthusiasm for model airplanes, especially vintage war birds, is what we will remember most about him. Tom was a well-known master builder of large scale model airplanes. He belonged to the Aviation Models Association, the Screaming Eagles, the RC Club of Watertown, The War Birds, and Tom was the assistant vice president of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, District 7, and the former president of the Madison Area Radio Control Society (M.A.R.C.S.). And though airplanes were his passion, caring for his mother, whom he dearly loved, was his highest priority. We will miss Toms fun personality, sparkling clear blue eyes, endearing smile and wealth of knowledge on many intriguing subjects. The memories of Tom will endure in the hearts and minds of his family and friends forever. He was preceded in death by his father, George; and a sister, Kathleen (Lazar) Lee. Tom is survived by his mother, Leora (Scullion) Lazar of Marshall; brother, George Lazar of Sun Prairie; sisters, Mary Lu (Harley) Bystol of Deerfield, Margaret (Bill) Reynolds of McKinleyville, Calif., Christine of Madison, Maureen (Scott) Vogel of Lexington, Ky.; former sister-in-law, Virginia (Connor) Lazar of Sun Prairie; brother-in-law, James Lee of Madison; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his buddies from M.A.R.C.S. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE NATIVITY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 112 S. Beebe St., Marshall, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 3, 2007, with Father Thomas E. Gillespie presiding. A graveside service will be held at St. Philip Cemetery in Highland, at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, March 2, 2007, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
