Audrey Fuller

Fuller, Audrey Jean MADISON/ REEDSBURG - Audrey Jean (Ableman) Fuller, age 84, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, while visiting her daughter and family in Hudson, Ohio. She was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Reedsburg, to Alva Minor and Hazel Mary (Fields) Ableman. Audrey married "her beau," John Douglas Fuller on June 29, 1946, in Portage, upon his return from the Western Front in World War II. Together they happily raised five children, Kenny John (Ann) Fuller of Baraboo, Dennis Gene (Marilyn) Fuller of Cottage Grove, Mary Amelia (Tim) Good of Hudson, Ohio, Bonnie May (Kenneth) Holmes of Madison and Alva Douglas (Jean) Fuller of Madison. They had 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Holidays at their house were like a Norman Rockwell painting. Audrey worked with her father at the woolen mills in Reedsburg, at the Hosiery in Portage, and at the soda fountain in the drugstore. We greatly enjoyed the benefits of that work experience when she would make us malts and sodas at home. She had many tales of riding her bike everywhere and seemed to get into plenty of mischief without ever needing a car. Audrey was a wonderful "at home" mother and grandmother until her death. She was a very caring person and spent her life working hard to keep others happy. The family attended Lake Edge United Church of Christ, Madison since 1957 and Audrey devoted much of her time to them. In recent years, she had formed some very close friendships with those in the Friendship Club, Companions in Christ, the book group, and prayer groups. Audrey enjoyed her life in many places in Wisconsin, including Manitowoc, Rock Springs, Baraboo, Reedsburg and Portage. She enjoyed traveling, so she and John took the kids on many weekend trips to places such as Porcupine Mountain and Boaz. Audrey really enjoyed a good game of cards when she was not working on gifts of fancy embroidery. In the summer months, she liked to go fishing and bird watching. Audrey loved telling her grandchildren stories from her youth and always had some candy tucked away in her pocketbook for a treat. She could play many musical instruments, piano, organ and accordion. Audrey and her brother, Bob use to sing and play when they had company calling. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Audrey is also survived by a brother, William (Donna) Ableman of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Frances (Zeitz) Ableman of Briggsville; Janice Faust of Waunakee; and many special relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on July 31, 2006; her parents; a brother, Alva Robert "Bob" Ableman; and a sister-in-law, Betty Ableman. Funeral services will be held at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Audrey will be joining her "beau" on Valentines Day.
