Obituary
Affholder, Anthony I. MADISON - Anthony I. Affholder Jr., age 84, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec. 13, 1922, to Anthony I. Sr. and Lillian C. (Nelson) Affholder, in Madison. Tony went to Pumpkin Hollow School (grades 1-8) and graduated from Madison East High School in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy directly after high school. The Navy sent him to four colleges; Northwestern, Iowa, Kansas and UW-Madison. Ensign Affholder then went to Boca Chica, Fla., for aircraft carrier qualifications. After he qualified, he was assigned to the Fighting One Hundred Fifty One. Tony was honorably discharged and released to inactive duty on Nov. 13, 1945. He then started his electrical career with O.T. Havey and was his superintendent and friend for almost 30 years. Tony finished his career as a superintendent for Nickles from 1973-1988. The last job Tony ran was MATC-Truax Campus. Tony was united in marriage to Olivette M. Kennedy on Nov. 26, 1946, at St. Marys of the Lake, Westport. In November 2006, they celebrated their 60th anniversary. He was a lifelong member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Madison. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Olivette; sons, Timothy (Caroline), Michael (Lora), Jeffrey and Anthony III; daughters, Attracta, Anthonette (Richard) Gilpatrick, and Shawn (Thomas) Munz; grandchildren, Colette, Brianna, Michaela, Michael, Rebecca, Adrianne and Timothy Jr.; a sister, Mary Jane; and a brother, Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey Girard; brother, Donald "Cap"; and a sister, Nancy. A private Mass will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, with Father John Meinholz presiding. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
