Obituary

Benton, Robert E. MONONA - Robert E. Benton, passed away on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at the age of 83. He was born on Jan. 6, 1924, to Elmer and Marian Benton, in Milwaukee. Bob served in the 1393rd Engineering Construction Battalion with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 5, Madison. Bob was a long-time official of Iron Workers Local 383 and enjoyed the company of other Iron Workers, particularly the Kupfer crews, where he was employed for most of his career. He served on Apprentice committees for many years, and was a member of the American Welding Society. Bob enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, trout fishing and never revealed exactly where the eight pound brown trout was caught. He also enjoyed weekend projects with his friends Ernie and George. Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; a son, Robin (Mary); two daughters, Ricki and Traci (Bill); two granddaughters, Rachel and Celia; a brother, Al (Fran); a sister, Marion Bruns; and many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at 11 a.m., at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Rd., Madison, with the Rev. John Helt presiding. A reception and gathering will take place after the memorial service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc.
