Chester Abrams

Abrams, Chester "Chet" OREGON - Chester "Chet" Abrams, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at his home in Oregon at the age of 90. He was born March 2, 1916, in Mount Hope, the son of Erna and Myrtle (Adams) Abrams. On Jan. 10, 1940, Chester married the former Marian Ellis in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on January 10, 2007. Chester and Marian farmed the family farm in Mount Hope, where they raised their two daughters, Karen and Cheryl. In 1956, Chester took a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the family moved to Oregon. He retired in 1978. After his retirement, he worked at the Dane County Coliseum for many years. Chester also served on the Oregon Village board. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Peoples United Methodist Church, in Oregon. His pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chester is survived by his loving wife, Marian; two daughters, Karen Owen and Cheryl (Dave) Mortensen; grandchildren, Jeff (Tami) Owen, Mark (Ruth) Mortensen, Amy Jo (Phil) Gillingham, Dea Marie (Bob) Schaller and Marsha (Sean) Tesar; great-grandchildren, Derek and Justin Owen, Tyler and Shania Mortensen, Emily, Samantha and Nicholas Schaller; a sister-in-law, Lois Abrams; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Fenton, Clark and William. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Dr., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, with the Rev. Howard Hintzman presiding. Burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
