Emerald Hewitt

Hewitt, Emerald "LeRoy" MONTELLO - Emerald "LeRoy" Hewitt, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at his home after a brief illness. He was born on September 8, 1940, in Madison, the son of Irvin and Eva (Sailor) Hewitt. He was employed as a steamfitter until his retirement in 1996. LeRoy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1959 through 1961. He was a member of the Portage American Legion Post 2930 and the Local 601 Steamfitters Union. LeRoy was best known as the "Sheriff" of the Rivers Bend Resort for looking after the campgrounds and campers. He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the game of football and singing karaoke. He truly enjoyed people. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Susan; three sons, Larry (Kerri) and their children, Michael, Abby and Cody; Gregg (Shelly) and their children, Tim, Brittany and Griffin; Jamy (Jodi) and their children, Jacob, Jonah, JosiAnna and Julia and three step-children, Teddy Roberts, Kristin Frame and Bobbi Hoppe; a brother, Robert (Betsy Fenne) Hewitt; two sisters, Devey (Keith) Parman and Sharon (Don) Davis; a cousin, Roxie Martin and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Ann; a sister, Waiva Loy; and a brother, Donald. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison. A party to celebrate LeRoys life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Rivers Bend Resort, W2614 Fox Lane, Montello (off of Hwy 22) beginning at 2 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the St. Marys Hospital nursing staff on 8 South West for their loving care given to LeRoy.
