Starczynski, Paul Raymond CROSS PLAINS/BLACK EARTH - Paul (Pollock) Raymond Starczynski, age 80, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cross Plains (Klevenville) on Oct. 13, 1926, to Michael and Myrtle (Beard) Starczynski. As a teenager, Paul was a member of the Cross Plains Legion Band. He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy on the USS Virgo. On Oct. 12, 1948, he married Shirley Eunice Schumann at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Marxville. Paul worked at Essers Distributing for 13 years and at UW-Madison for 31 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 245 in Cross Plains for over 60 years, serving as commander in 1966 to 1968 and as service officer for 27 years. He enjoyed driving the Tippycar in numerous parades for Post 245. He was a member of St. Martins Lutheran Church in Cross Plains, a member of the Wisconsin River Sportsmans Club and Last Mans Club. Paul loved to go fishing, tinker with and repair old clocks and work with old cars. He enjoyed playing cards with the kids and grandkids. Paul will be missed very, very much. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 58 years; his children, Steven of Middleton, Brenda (Vern) Wendt of Black Earth, John of Waunakee and Shiryl (Cecil) Roberts of Mazomanie; his grandchildren, Tim and Tanya Wendt, Brett (Shawn) Stampfli, Kerri (Tom) Drager, Tim Roberts, Kelly (Dave) Hanson, his great-grandchildren, Jaden and Landen Stampfli, Seth (Atheena) Brockmann, Tim and Krista Drager, Jared Roberts, and Taryn and Katelyn Hanson; a great great-grandchild, Jameson Brockmann; two sisters, Dora Lybek and Emma (Alban) Haag; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Schumann, Nathalie (Bud) Bergum, and Gloria (Michael) Mullvain; brothers-in-law, James (Virginia) Schumann and Eugene (Jean) Schumann; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Ed and Nettie Schumann; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Josephine Starcyznski; sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Foster Odegard; and brother-in-law, Lavern Schumann. A celebration of Pauls life will be held with a memorial service at ST. MARTINS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2427 Church Street (Hwy. P), Cross Plains, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, with the Rev. Peter Jonas presiding and Military Rites immediately following. Private burial service will be held at a later date. Family will be receiving friends from noon until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
