Obituary

Cottington, Harold James MIDDLETON - Harold James Cottington, age 87, passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006. He was born on May 20, 1919, in Ashland, the son of Paul Melville and Alma Mae (Kranzfelder) Cottington. Harold graduated from Superior Central High School and went on to further his education at Superior State Teachers College. He was a veteran of World War II, having proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Sept. 22, 1945, Harold was united in marriage to Hazel Lucille Albright. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1990. For 24 years Harold was the owner and operator of the Middleton Bus Company. In 1974, he went to work for Madison Metro, retiring in 1987. Harold was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Badger Stamp Club of Madison and the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by three sons, James Cottington of Middleton, John (Linda) Cottington of Fitchburg and Thomas Cottington of Middleton; two grandchildren, Amy and Jay Cottington; a great-granddaughter, Nina; and three sisters, Evelyn Mattson, Wendy Jacobs and Lucille (Tom) Malmo. In addition to his wife, Hazel, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Wallace and Louis; and four sisters, Edna, Pauline, Helen and Lillian. Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, with the Rev. Stephen Ganzkow-Wold presiding. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave, Middleton.
