Halvor Bjornson

Bjornson, Halvor R. OREGON - Halvor Richard Bjornson, age 77, passed away at the HospiceCare Center, on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, following an 18 year struggle with Polymyositus, a rare muscle degenerative disease. He was born on Dec. 24, 1929, in Glendive, Mont. He was the youngest of four children and the only boy. In 1935, drought and grasshoppers drove Halvors family off their Montanan farm and they relocated to Oregon, Wis. He served faithfully in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean War from January 1951 to December 1952. In 1953, Halvor met and married the former Margaret-Ann Carlson. He was a life long carpenter until his 1991 retirement from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Carpentry Shop. Over four decades, he helped build many buildings in downtown Madison. Halvor was a highly active outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and trap. There were several stories about Halvors outdoor activities in the Outdoor Life columns in both the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times and additionally on occasional Madison area TV news programs. Halvor is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret-Ann of Oregon; two sons, Thomas Bjornson of Oregon and Ty (Danelle) Bjornson of Onalaska; a daughter, Trudy Bjornson of Oregon; a granddaughter, Hanna Hamlet of Oregon; his twin sister, Harriet (Robert) Gallman of Evansville; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Halvor and Emmaline (Brown) Bjornson; two sisters, Almira (Leslie) Kimmel and Dorothy (Roy) Hanson; and a granddaughter, Angel. Funeral services will be held at HILLCREST BIBLE CHURCH, 752 East Netherwood Road, Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007. A final resting place at the family plot near Dairyland, in northwestern Wisconsin. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
