Obituary

Mello, Elisha Sunshine MADISON/ MARQUETTE, MICH. - Elisha Sunshine Mello, age 36, of Marquette, Mich., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital, after a long fought struggle with alcoholism. She was born on June 21, 1970, in San Francisco, Calif., the daughter of William and Nichoe (Lichen) Mello. Elisha attended Madison West High School and worked as CNA for more than a decade at hospitals in Florida, at Oakwood Village in Madison and with developmentally disabled adults in Madison. She enjoyed good movies, good cooking, reading, writing short prose and poems. She loved her cats and was especially fond of spending time with friends and those whom she loved. She was bright, witty and gifted with great humor. It would have been hard not to love her. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. Sunshine is survived by her partner, Joan Racine; father, William Mello and step-mother, Donna Morrissey of Madison; mother, Nichoe Lichen of Sante Fe, N.M.; siblings, Donovan (Patricia) Mello, Ezra and Isaac Lichen-Engelson; maternal grandfather, David Niven of Manawa, Wis.; paternal grandmother, Marie Mello of Gustine, Calif.; maternal aunts and uncles, David and Kay Niven of Manawa, Becky and Doug Creamer of Waupaca; step-aunts and uncle, Patrick and Sue Morrissey of Menasha and Diane Morrissey of Madison; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elisha was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Alice Niven; paternal grandfather, Manuel P. Mello; and step-grandmother, Emaline Morrissey. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful medical staff at Marquette General CCU Unit: doctors, nurses, inhalation therapists and social worker; and a very special thanks to Dr. Emmy Lawrason. A memorial celebrating Sunshines life will be held in the spring, a season she loved dearly, on Saturday, April 28, 2007, from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at OLBRICH GARDENS, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Tellurian (McGovern Center Trust), 300 Femrite Drive, Madison, WI 53716 or Hope Haven, care of Catholic Charities, 702 S. High Point Road, P.O. Box 46550, Madison, WI 53744. There was something formless and perfect before the universe was born. It is serene...Solitary. Unchanging. Infinite. Eternally present. It flows thorough all things, inside and out, and returns to the origin of all things. Each separate being in the universe returns to the common source. Returning to the source is serenity.
