Nettie Ballard

Ballard, Nettie Jane MADISON - Nettie Jane Ballard, nee Nettie Jane Befus (Korth), died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at age 87. She was born April 30, 1919, in Middleton, attended school in Waterloo and Elkhart Lake. At an early age, Nettie started her musical career in school bands and glee clubs accompanying singing and instrumental pieces. She married Harvey Befus in 1940, who died in 1977. Nettie was employed 10 years at Carmens Coat Store on the Square, and 39 years at Hopkins Agricultural Chemical Co., retiring in 1996. In 1999, Nettie married William C. Ballard of Sheboygan. Nettie had a great love for family, friends, her boxer dogs, playing cards and games. Survivors include two daughters, Sandie (Earl) Nahmens of Janesville, and Peggy (Lloyd) Hendrickson of Madison; five grandchildren, Teresa (Loren) Burkeland of Madison, Bradford Gest of Janesville, Monica Smith of Madison, Derek (Martha) Smith of Mazomanie, and Lance Hendrickson of Madison; and four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Blaser, Nettia Smith, Destiny Smith and Anthony Hendrickson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and a sisters, Ann Dahl. Funeral services will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Road, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, with the Rev. Sheryl Erickson presiding. Burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Dane County Humane Society.
